Conditional Call Forwarding:
Conditional call forwarding allows you to have incoming calls go to another phone line, whenever your wireless device is:
- Busy (you are on a call)
- Unanswered (you are not able to pick-up)
- Unreachable (you have lost connectivity or your phone is turned off)
What is it used for?
When you want unanswered calls to go to another number rather than go to voicemail. Most people don’t want to forward all calls but like having the option if their line busy or no answer. While some carriers offer this at no charge, some carries require an additional fee to enable conditional call forwarding.
How is conditional call forwarding different from standard(unconditional) call forwarding?
Standard (unconditional) call forwarding redirects all incoming calls to another phone number. For example Boost mobile only supports unconditional call forwarding which is why Boost does not work with our service. Unconditional call forwarding does not differentiate between different kinds of calls, it has limited utility and doesn't work with our service.
Conditional call forwarding is much more sophisticated. A phone with conditional call forwarding will ring normally and only forward a call if you do not answer, your phone line is busy, or you cannot be reached.
How does Call Assistant use Conditional Call forwarding?
Your carrier voicemail has its own phone number. Your phone forwards calls to this number automatically when a call goes to your voicemail. Call Assistant uses conditional call forwarding to change the phone number calls are forwarded to enable these core features of the Call Assistant app:
- Screening calls
- Music Hold
- Call Recording
- Video Calls (when both callers use the Call Assistant app)
- Block robocalls
- Allow you to manually block callers
- Custom screening message.
What if my carrier does not provide conditional call forwarding?
Unfortunately, if you have a carrier like Boost Mobile, we are not able to run our service correctly without conditional call forwarding.
